You’re Not in Control.
Somewhere along the way, people started talking about free will.
While every app on your phone is quietly running a psychological lab experiment on you and you’re the unpaid idiot.
Wanna talk about the manipulations we all fall for?!?
Okay.
Because they’re invisible, engineered, and they fucking work.
And because pretending we’re too smart for that is how we became this easy to control.
1. Behavioral Design Nudging
Tiny micro pushes that make you think it was your idea.
Your phone is full of teeny tiny nudges that change your behavior:
The red notification bubble.
The vibration of dopamine.
The “you’re almost done, keep going!” gamification.
The “reminder” that’s really a shove.
The infinite scroll that turns minutes into lost hours and a missing personality.
These aren’t accidents.
They’re psychological levers.
You think you have preferences.
What you really have is a designer who studied addiction literature.
2. Emotional Capitalism
Your feelings are somebody’s business plan.
Every app now runs on emotional extraction:
Fear = clicks
Anger = comments
Sadness = shares
Loneliness = engagement
Dopamine = ad revenue
You’re not in your feelings.
You’re in a funnel.
Your heartbreak is a KPI.
Your anxiety is monetizable.
Your scrolling is a quarterly earnings booster.
We built a world where corporations don’t just want your attention.
They want your nervous system.
3. Identity Hijacking
The internet didn’t just steal your time.
It stole you.
Platforms figured out a long fucking time ago that the easiest way to control people is to script their identities for them.
They tell you:
What personality type you are
What aesthetic you should adopt
What political tribe you belong to
What label makes you “valid”
What belief makes you “unsafe”
Who you’re allowed to be without losing social points
You were assigned a character.
Some people are playing themselves.
Most people are playing whatever version got the most likes.
And most people never question it.
4. Data as Psychological Kompromat
Your data is not just numbers.
It’s your crime scene of a nervous system.
Your search history shows fears you don’t admit.
Your browsing habits reveal cravings you don’t talk about.
Your patterns show weaknesses you don’t see.
Your pauses show insecurities you pretend don’t exist.
Your clicks show emotional vulnerabilities you never say out loud.
Platforms know more about you than anyone and everyone combined.
If governments had this level of intel in 1975, half the planet would’ve been jailed for some stupid shit.
Now?
We call it “personalization.”
5. AI Micro Profiling
Predicting you.
AI doesn’t just learn your behavior.
It learns the micro behaviors:
What content makes your pupils dilate
Which posts raise your heart rate
How long before you get bored
What tone of voice calms you
What narrative makes you compliant
Which emotion makes you click fastest
Which insecurity makes you stay online longest
You think you’re choosing the content.
NOPE.
The content chose you.
This is micro manipulation at a stupid fucking level.
Invisible.
Precise.
And 100% deniable.
The Real Danger
It’s not that this system exists.
It’s that most people think they’re too aware to be influenced.
We cannot fight what we refuse to name.
And we cannot maintain sovereignty if the things shaping our thoughts are engineered to never be noticed.
The goal isn’t to panic.
The goal is to wake the fuck up.
Because the more aware you are of the nudges, the scripts, the engineered feelings, and the predictive profiling…
…the harder you are to control.
That is the rebellion.
Not deleting your apps.
Not living in the woods.
Not throwing your phone into traffic.
Taking your mind back.
Thank You To Everyone
To everyone who reads these pieces, shares them, questions them, and refuses to let their brain turn into an algorithm’s chew toy, thank you.
If you choose to support through a paid subscription, it directly fuels the mission:
more writing, more research, more pattern recognition, and more tools for people who don’t have a platform, a voice, or the privilege of being boosted.
Think of it less as paying for content and more like donating to the fucking resistance.
Either way, I appreciate you.
We’re waking up together, one uncomfortable truth at a time.
🖤

Brilliant, concise and necessary reading for the resistance to spread.
Shorter Maria 😉🙂:

Though still some impressive images.
But the process is still, in many ways, just more of the same, even if at some point more is different, produces a tipping point, a phase change. In particular, I've often argued that while prostitution is supposedly the world's oldest profession, advertising is a close second — some of the earliest cave writings have been translated as “for a good time, call Mona, third cave from the watering hole”. True facts. 😉🙂
